Listen up Daft Punk: there’s a new robot DJ in town. After recently touring the UK and USA with Disclosure, Flume created a new exclusive track – for Intel. Demonstrating the creative power of Intel’s mobile processors, “Intelligent Sounds” sees Felix the Robot Conductor and an orchestra of tablet-powered robot instruments come to life to perform the new track, composed by Flume specifically for this purpose. Each ‘member’ of Intelligent Sound’s tablet band was programmed with synthesised notes and triggered to play through on cue, while robot arms were pre-programmed to hit the required notes in time with the final song. Robot arms and fingers are also controlled via tablet to trigger more organic sounds of drums, horns and more. Instruments are decked out in neon lights, flashing with each note and robotic movement, complimenting the blend of analogue sounds that build towards an epic digital crescendo. Making use of the infinity prism featured in Flume’s on-stage shows, the final performance is truly a feat of engineering and visual design, the culmination of decades of technological advancements, so obviously a ‘Making Of’ video was also vital. You can check that out here, and perhaps pick up a few DIY robot music tips…
