Gold: APGD Awards 2015 – Best Design in a TVC Commercial Working collaboratively under our good friends at Ink Project. Substance was invited by director Ken Lambert to VFX Supervise the shoot of 3 TVCs for Foxtel featuring Chris Hemsworth, aka Thor, and then deliver all 2D post using Flame. For Foxtel, in this spot Chris Hemsworth takes us on a journey through drama genres, whilst delivering his thoughts on Foxtel’s drama program offering. Originally multiple shots with greenscreens, plates were then stitched together and greenscreens replaced with a Game-of-Thones-style background, complete with dragons, a slain army, and warriors doing battle. The matte painting was split into layers and projected onto planes in Flame, with the Dragon’s firey breath attached using positional data from Maya. In the latter half of the commercial, smoke, flames, and flashing lights were added and enhanced, to create a much bigger effect than we could have safely achieved on set. As lead artists, Substance looked after VFX supervision, shot management, look development, and comp.
