Uncle Tobys’ winter campaign for 2009 centered around the idea that eating Oats is the best activity one could possibly undertake in the colder months. Our original brief was to focus on expressing aspects of winter and nature in a purely typographic form (see boards below). Having won the pitch, Uncle Toby decided a change of direction was in order, and we were then asked to take a more illustrative turn, with the request to keep the typographics of “Winter” as a character. I was responsible for pitching, animation, and compositing in After Effects, and finishing in flame. Inverse kinematics scripts and expressions in After Effects helped with the run-cycle of the word “Winter”, however the shrinking of the T in the 2nd commercial was purely due to the coldness of the water.
